Laura Liu joined College Possible as Chief Operating Officer in January 2014. In this role, she is the organization’s internal leader and principal advisor to the CEO as the organization grows to serve 20,000 students in 10 cities by 2020.
Prior to joining College Possible, Liu successfully managed an international team of 2,200 employees as senior vice president of Northwest Airlines’ international division, the culmination of over two decades at Northwest. There, Laura had responsibility for the $3.5 billion division and oversaw all aspects of commercial and operational performance for international flights. She also served as senior vice president of new market development at Capella Education Company where she oversaw strategic and business management of the company’s education subsidiaries and successfully sought out new revenue sources. Since moving to the Twin Cities in 1991, Laura has been active in the community, currently serving as a board member of the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the YWCA of Minneapolis and Regions Hospital.
From her professional career, Laura learned that her energy comes from growing an organization through strong strategic vision and disciplined operational execution. From her work with community organizations, she witnessed the tremendous personal and social benefits of delivering programs and services that help people get the tools they need to succeed. At College Possible, she is combining these twin passions as she leads the organization through a period of rapid growth.
Laura holds three degrees from Cornell University; a Master of Business Administration, a Master of Engineering degree, and a Bachelor of Science degree in materials science engineering. She resides in Minneapolis with her husband and two children.
