  • What can I expect to happen during this event?

The networking training will start at 4:30 p.m. for students to learn how to make the most of any conversation with a working professional.

The event will kick off with food, drinks and networking from 5:30 to 6:15 p.m. Meet and network with college students preparing for a future in the workforce. Stay for a brief program featuring a fireside chat with students and an award presentation honoring University of Nebraska Omaha and Mutual of Omaha Foundation. The program will end by 7:30 p.m.

  • Who else will attend this event?

Expect to meet a diverse group of Omaha community members, including local business professionals, College Possible partners and talented college students in the program. You’ll also have the chance to meet College Possible staff, board members and AmeriCorps members.

  • Will I be paired 1:1 with a student during the networking portion?

You will not be paired directly with anyone at the event. We’re aiming to create authentic networking experiences for students and alumni, so we do not have a 1:1 ratio of guests to students.

Instead, we’re creating an environment where students can practice introducing themselves on their own or with the help of staff members who will be positioned throughout the room. We encourage you to also help with networking by introducing students to other guests at the event.

  • How will I be able to identify students throughout the event?

College Possible students will have green ribbons on their nametags as well as a labeled area of interest. You can also look for College Possible staff members to help you make connections.

  • What should I be prepared to talk about with students and alumni during the networking portion?

No matter what educational or career background you have, your presence and support will be beneficial. We’re seeking supportive adults who will be open to asking about our students’ experiences and willing to share their own.

Try one of the following general conversation starter questions as a good place to start.

    • Where are you attending/did you attend college? What drew you to that school?
    • What are you studying and why? How did you determine your major?
    • What was your favorite college experience?
    • What drew you to the event tonight? Have you done something like this before?

Finding out more about their current career or career aspirations is another idea.

    • Do you have any ideas about what you would like your next step to be?
    • What are you looking for in an employer?
    • What do you enjoy most about your current or intended career field?
    • Is there a specific area of professional development I can help you with?
