On a sunny Tuesday in February, a small group of College Possible high school seniors and their coaches attended a Skills4Success workshop, hosted by board members Kim Irwin and Susan Mikulay. Kelly Roecker, Bartolotta Restaurant’s Director of Corporate Training, led seniors and coaches in exercises intended to build confidence and develop life skills that lead to long-term success.
“The energy level has been inspiring,” said Roecker.
“These students are going to leave this world a better place than they found it. To see them engaged, to see them show up, to participate and be vulnerable has been an awesome experience.”
Students practiced when and how to shake hands, personal branding, interview etiquette and how to construct a personal elevator speech. Students asked questions about professional development, spent time crafting personal goals and reflected on how networking fits into their daily lives.
College Possible high school seniors are at a pivotal moment of their final year; many are receiving financial aid packages from colleges and are meeting with admissions counselors on the status of their application. The skills provided by Roecker and her team have given our seniors a leg up on their professional readiness for the next stage in their life!
