College Possible Twin Cities
College Possible Twin Cities

College Possible Twin Cities is proud to serve 7,600 low-income students in the Twin Cities metro area of Minnesota. College Possible serves 1,500 students in the Twin Cities at 19 partner high schools through our core high school program. Our students have an average GPA of 3.0, and 91 percent are students of color. Our students report an average annual family income of less than $25,000.

College Possible Twin Cities also serves 3,100 students through our college program as they work to complete their degrees. We provide an additional 3,000 high school freshmen and sophomores college planning workshops to help them get on the right track for college.

College Possible began in Minnesota, the home state of founder Jim McCorkell. In its first year, four part-time coaches served 35 juniors at two high schools in Minneapolis. Through the generous support of local organizations, foundations and individuals, the program has expanded throughout the metro area.

The Case for Higher Education in Minnesota

Citizens League
Governor Pawlenty asked the Citizens League to examine the future of higher education in Minnesota, especially in light of changing demographics and an increasingly competitive global economy.  Their report cites two particularly disturbing trends:

“The supply of potential new workers coming through the K-12 educational pipeline will begin shrinking just as baby-boomers start retiring; and, students of color and low-income students will be an increasing percentage of this pipeline, and their current achievement in high school and higher education is uneven and often inadequate. Our success in higher education depends on their success.”

The Citizens League calls for Minnesota to invest in the future of higher education in our state by increasing the number of students participating in college access programs.  They recommend that we  “expand successful programs such as Admission Possible”  which has “a demonstrated track record of success.”
