Clinton Global Initiative to feature College Possible’s new Commitment to Action to expand opportunity
St. Paul, Minn.―College Possible Founder and CEO Jim McCorkell will join President Bill Clinton and other featured commitment makers at a Plenary Session of the 2016 Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) America meeting to highlight the organization’s new Commitment to Action to help low-income and first-generation students make it to, and all the way through, college. At the closing session of the meeting, McCorkell will announce College Possible’s new strategy for an audience of nearly 1,000 social-innovation funders, government officials and nonprofit leaders. The organization plans to take their proven model to scale in order to change the success rates of thousands of low-income students who enroll in college each year but do not graduate. McCorkell will solicit new higher-education and philanthropic partners at the conference.
College Possible will expand its peer-to-peer coaching model by working with colleges and universities to:
- Recruit, hire and manage near-peer coaches, ultimately utilizing the college’s existing staff to implement the College Possible approach
- Leverage the coast-to-coast network of coaches—AmeriCorps service members and recent college graduates—created by the expansion
- Employ predictive analytics to inform how and when coaches intervene with individual students
Today, a student from a middle-income family is ten times more likely to earn a college degree than a student from a low-income household. With 65% of jobs requiring some kind of post-secondary education by 2020, the United States is leaving thousands of capable low-income students out of economic opportunities of the future.
Tune in to the Clinton Global Initiative closing plenary session to hear the details or contact College Possible to schedule an interview with McCorkell and key members of College Possible’s leadership team to learn more about its commitment to closing the degree divide.
