My favorite thing about college: My favorite thing about college was all of the opportunities that I was afforded while I was on campus! There are so many clubs, extracurriculars, sports, research opportunities, community engagement events, etc. that I was able to get involved in, that allowed me to meet people and gain new skills outside of the classroom. Some of my best memories, friends and experiences came from these opportunities, and the majority of what I reflect back on and talk to future employers about now is what I learned and was exposed to here.
When I began school in Morris, I was not super excited about living in such a rural community (population: 5,000) for the next three years of my life. However, getting involved and meeting people in the community, and exposing myself to opportunities like Storytime and MPIRG and geology club trips, allowed me to never really think about the barren landscape around me. Instead, I was always furiously trying to balance which activities I would have time for that week, since there were so many options to choose from! College felt like the first time that I was able to decide WHAT I wanted to fill my life with and when, instead of it all being planned out for me, as it had mostly been in high school. There was a sweet degree of freedom in that!
