Sara Gavin is president of Weber Shandwick North America, responsible for the firm’s 23 offices within that region, focused on marshaling the firm’s talent and resources on behalf of clients to deliver indispensable service and results.
Sara was the executive leader for public relations for the U.S. Army recruiting communications agency, McCann Worldgroup, for 5 years.
In her 30 years with the company, Sara has represented Cargill, The Coca-Cola Company, Land O’Lakes, the U.S. Army, the dairy industry, Carlson, and a range of clients in the health care industry and has led several of the agency’s largest accounts in the areas of positioning, brand and reputation management, crisis communications, grassroots and advocacy building, consumer education, media relations, and social media.
Before joining Weber Shandwick, Sara spent three years with the international public relations firm Hill and Knowlton, where she was vice president. Sara is one of the founders of Mona Meyer McGrath & Gavin, a Minneapolis public relations firm, which became part of Weber Shandwick in 1988.
Sara is on the board of directors of Securian Corporation where she serves on the Governance and Human Resources committees. She also serves on the board of College Possible, a regional college-access NGO, and the regional board of Teach for America. Sara previously served on a variety of community boards, including Minnesota Public Radio, the College of Saint Catherine and the Minnesota Women’s Economic Roundtable. Minneapolis-St. Paul Business Journal named Sara the 2015 “Women in Business Career Achievement” winner. The publication previously recognized her as one of Minnesota’s “40 under 40” and one of “Minnesota’s 25 Most Innovative Women.” She was named one of the Centennial 100 at St. Catherine University where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa with a bachelor of arts degree in history and political science. She has completed graduate courses in the University of Minnesota’s master’s degree in business
She lives in the Twin Cities of Minneapolis│St. Paul with her husband and four children.
