“As a child of immigrant parents who had no formal education and did not speak the English language, I received the vast majority of my educational, career and college financial support from others – both individuals and organizations – who were willing to take a chance on me. I trust my service to the Foundation and the Foundation’s grant-making will help others achieve their dreams as well, whatever they may be.”
Millie leads the Foundation’s financial and administrative operations, including accounting, grants and contracts, human resources, facilities, technology, and investments. She also acts as treasurer of the board of directors and is staff liaison to the board’s investment and audit committees.
She is well versed in the fields of finance and investment. In addition to her years at the Foundation, she served as vice president in financial advice services and in the investment department of Ameriprise/American Express Financial Advisors for nearly 20 years. She was responsible for hedge funds operations, Wall Street broker relations, soft dollars and commissions management, proxy voting, corporate governance, and Six Sigma transformation projects. She holds a bachelor’s in economics from the University of Chicago and a master’s of business administration from the University of Minnesota, as well as a FINRA/NASD Series 7 license (inactive), and Six Sigma Green Belt and Executive Black Belt designations.
Millie is most proud of her staff leadership during the development of the Foundation’s groundbreaking mission-related investing strategy, which dedicates roughly 10 percent of Foundation assets to investments aligned with the Foundation’s mission and is expected to provide both positive social impact and financial returns.
Outside the Foundation, Millie enjoys her volunteer work with the Minnesota Council on Foundations and the Girls Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys. A native of Chicago, she currently lives in Minneapolis with her husband and twin sons.
