What drew you to College Possible and why did you apply?
What initially drew me to apply to College Possible was having the opportunity to serve in the same high school I attended. After talking with the high school principal and hearing about all the awesome things College Possible had done at David Douglas High School in their first year, I knew I had to apply.
What’s your favorite thing about serving with College Possible?
Seeing my students hit the “submit” button on a college application and then handing over their College Possible envelope with all their application materials in it. All of their hard work over the years to attend college has been submitted online or sent in an envelope. It’s pretty powerful to see this completion happen.
What has been a favorite memory from your service with College Possible?
During one session we wrote thank you cards to teachers who’d written letters of recommendation or other people in the school who deserved recognition. As my students filed out after session, I reminded them to give out the thank you notes the next day. Students mumbled “ok yeah sure fine” as they left. One student stayed behind and after we were done chatting he handed me an envelope, gave me a hug and said, “Thank you for helping make my dreams come true, Laura.” His small act of gratitude is a constant reminder of how important the work is that College Possible does.
