What drew you to College Possible and why did you apply?
I was a VISTA last year and I really enjoyed being involved in service, but wanted to move into college access work because I’m very passionate about education. I knew College Possible by name only, and went in to do an informational interview with the program manager at College Possible Milwaukee. I was really impressed by the work the organization does, the results that have been achieved and especially the dedication I saw in everybody there. After that, I submitted my AmeriCorps application for pretty much every position.
What has been a favorite memory from your service with College Possible?
One of my students won the national Horatio Alger Scholarship, and she called me the afternoon she heard to let me know. It was so exciting, and I was really happy just to be able to share in the moment.
What would you say to someone considering serving with College Possible?
I would say that College Possible is a pretty unique opportunity to get involved in the world of college access, specifically by direct service with students whom you will never forget. These are students who have faced challenge after challenge and still manage to stay positive, to stay motivated, and just to be a part of their journey is an incredible experience.
