Student Profile: Spencer, Ralston High School Class of 2020

Spencer Justesen loves playing the saxophone in the Ralston High School Marching Band. He is a member of concert, jazz and show choir bands too.

The talented high school senior is a member of National Honor Society and an active participant in the Ralston community. He volunteers at the food pantry and is a Rambassador, a student service organization that promotes kindness, strong work ethic and responsibility.

“Spencer is a very confident, polite and respectful student. He’s involved in many different activities and does very well at balancing his time inside and outside of school to achieve his goals,” said Jordan Engel, Ralston teacher and Rambassador sponsor.

Another organization that helps Spencer prepare for a successful future he is proud to be in – College Possible.

“I’m thankful to be in College Possible, because College Possible provides me with information about college that I would have otherwise not known, been lost or confused without,” said Spencer.

Students in the program receive support and coaching to prepare for college admission and success. High school students write personal statement essays, search for scholarships, tour college campuses and apply to at least five college or universities. College students continue to receive support through graduation, including financial aid, scholarship and enrollment coaching.

Spencer wants to earn a bachelor’s degree in music education, so he can be a music teacher like the ones who have inspired him throughout his education.

So far this year, Spencer has been accepted to four universities in Nebraska, and is strongly considering University of Nebraska – Lincoln.

Engel said Spencer is an ambitious student with a bright future. “Spencer sets achievable goals for himself and works very hard to reach his goals with the resources he is given. He has a great future ahead of him.”
