Philadelphia’s College Signing Day!

On April 22, College Possible Philadelphia students had the pleasure of participating in the Second Annual Reach Higher Philly College Signing Day! More than 2,500 high school seniors from Philadelphia School District convened at Temple University in McGonigle Hall to celebrate their enrollment in colleges across the country. They were joined by college representatives and education leaders from Philadelphia and Pennsylvania. It was an energizing day of speakers, mascots, bands and fun activities like a citywide dance off. Students heard from Dr. William Hite, superintendent of the Philadelphia school district, keynote speaker Deesha Dyer, the Social Secretary for the White House, and Pennsylvania State Representative Jordan Harris. Professor Aaron Smith, also known as Temple University’s Rapping Professor, emceed the event, introducing the speakers and activities and keeping the celebration going.

The event was aligned with First Lady Michelle Obama’s Reach Higher Initiative, which celebrates college-bound students for their commitment to furthering their education. The First Lady sent a recorded message to the students in attendance, congratulating them on their success so far and reminding them that their educational journey was only just beginning. Check out some photos of the event below!
