Mayra knew she wanted to go to college. With her grades and her drive, there was no doubt she would succeed. But, she didn’t have someone to guide her through the complex process of getting there—ACT prep, college visits and actually applying for admission and scholarships.
Then, she met Matt, who was serving as a College Possible AmeriCorps coach at her high school in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Matt encouraged Mayra to dream big—and she did!
Mayra was admitted to several selective colleges and eventually decided on Georgetown University.
“College Possible prepared me not only to go to college, but to work really hard to make it Georgetown,” she said.
Fast forward four years, and Mayra is graduating with a bachelor’s degree in government this month!
After graduation, Mayra plans to return to Milwaukee to make a difference in her community to help more students pursue their own dreams of a college education, just like she did.
“College has opened so many doors for me,” she said. “Now, I want to give back to my community, have an impact and make a difference.”
Join us this month by celebrating graduates like Mayra, who are beating the odds. Make a gift this spring to help more low-income students reach their goal of a college education.
