AmeriCorps members and College Possible staff attend annual Nebraska AmeriCorps Conference in Lincoln

Thirty AmeriCorps members serving high school and college students and members of College Possible staff attended the AmeriCorps Members Conference: Be the Greater Good on Wednesday, Oct. 9.

The all-day event hosted by ServeNebraska was at the Nebraska Innovation Campus in Lincoln and brought together members from across the state to discuss service. It included a member pledge of service, an alumni panel and comments from ServeNebraska Executive Director Cathy Plager and Nebraska State Sen. Tony Vargas.

Breakout sessions covered topics including group facilitation skills, national poverty, working with youth, the service education award and diversity and inclusion.

“I’m thankful for ServeNebraska for putting on this conference and providing us the opportunity to hear Sen. Tony Vargas share his personal and professional journey,” said AmeriCorps VISTA Michael Bandy of Omaha.

“I liked the session about diversity and inclusion, because T.J. McDowell of University of Nebraska Lincoln brought great energy and passion to the topic. I also liked meeting AmeriCorps members from other nonprofit organizations and hearing about the great service programs members are doing in their communities.”
