The latest results are in and volunteering in the U.S. is at its highest level yet, according to the 2018 Volunteering in America report by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS).
More than 77 million volunteers across the country contributed nearly 7 billion hours worth an estimated $167 billion in economic value in the past year. Nearly 20 percent of volunteers gave their time to supporting education or youth service groups, and more than 30 percent also raised funds for nonprofits.
“The fabric of our nation is strengthened by the service of its volunteers. When we stand side-by-side to help others, our differences fade away and we learn that Americans have more in common than we realize,” said Barbara Stewart, CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service. “Each and every day, ordinary Americans are stepping up to support their fellow citizens to help with needs both great and small because they understand the power service has to change communities and lives for the better.”
As an AmeriCorps organization, College Possible relies on AmeriCorps and AmeriCorps VISTA members volunteering to serve for a year or two to help close the degree divide for students from low-income backgrounds.
We’re also proud to report the cities and states we operate in are among the best in country for volunteering!
